Great smoke but horrible burn. I’ll take the blame for that this time as I’m thinking it was right up against the bodeva pack in the humidor… Got it to even out and smoked it extra slow and that helped keep the burn a little more even. If it wasn’t for that it would have gotten 4.5-5 stars. Next one I’ll dry box just to be safe.
So far the most plesurable cigar that I have tried. Beautiful, dark wrapper with eye-catching band, apperance, precise, tight-packed tobacco with perfect draw and burn. Speaking of technicalities, it was 10/10 experience. When it comes to flavour I thought I would get something different from sun grown wrapper. Nevertheless it was a bad surprise or disappointment. Flavour-wise this stick was stable throughout whole smoke session. Every puff, from tip to bottom, was almost identical. I could sense a blend of roasted coffee, black pepper, maple syrup and walnuts. None of them dominated the palette and that is why it was also hard for me to detect all flavours this cigar could offer. So far, this has been the most pleasurable cigar I've tried. It boasts a beautiful dark wrapper and an eye-catching band, with a precise, tightly packed tobacco construction that delivers a perfect draw and burn. From a technical standpoint, the experience was a flawless 10/10.
In terms of flavor, I expected something different from a sun-grown wrapper. In truth, I based my expectations merely on other people's opinions on dark wrappers so that's it. However, it wasn’t an unpleasant surprise or a disappointment—just not what I had anticipated. The flavor profile remained consistent throughout the entire smoke session. Every puff, from start to finish, offered a well-balanced blend of roasted coffee, black pepper, maple syrup, and walnuts. None of these notes overpowered the others, making it challenging to pick apart all the nuances the cigar had to offer.
I will definitely give it another go.
Paired with a stout beer—an excellent choice for now, considering my limited experience and still-developing palate.
I will give it another go 100%.
Paired with stout beer. Could not choose better for now, regarding my lack of experience and still developing palette.
Outstanding cigar as always. Unfortunately, this time the burn line had a runner down the side that I had to touch up through the first half of the cigar. Generally a great experience, and I'll look forward to more.
These cigars pretty much always start with strong spice on the tongue and this was no exception. Outstanding. There was also a hint of dried fruit as the cherry formed. Perhaps dried current? The middle was a steady wood flavor. Oak maybe. And finally it finished with a notable but tame spice at the end. Really just great. Only complaint was the burn needed regular attention and a few relights. No big deal.
The first third was remarkable to the pint of elevation. The 2nd third was acceptable but lost what had me excited. And the final third fell off from what the first third was. Off in a way that wasn’t offensive or bad but just lacking enough consistency for me not to buy this again This had the potential to be a box buy. Perhaps I got a stick that was off I will revisit and update if anything changes. As of this initial impression I would not buy again. Update I smoked this again as a revisit and I would buy it again I give it an 89.
Three months in the humidor made a big difference. Wrapper was dark, oily, chewy. Flavors the same but more depth right from the outset, much better flavor on the exhale. Draw was open, lower smoke volume.
Black pepper, cedar, earth, and coffee. The construction was much better than the ESG I had the a few days ago, but I think I prefer the flavor of the ESG slightly more.
Knew this would be a full bodied cigar when my lips tingled during lighting. The strength of the cigar builds as you smoke. Up front it's earth, cedar and a trace of pepper. Mellows out in the middle, fake to the left with a note of sweetness, then builds to the finish.
Well constructed, open draw means you experience the full bodied character of the cigar directly.
The wrapper is veiny. Sumatran, apparently grown at high altitude. Did have to relight once in the middle.
Drink: ky Irish red ale
Very rich flavor. Tones of pepper and spice in the first third. Second third continued with the pepper but less spicy. Final third started to burn somewhat hot and bittered slightly. Smoked almost to a nub.
Moderately strong cigar.
Overall good construction (one vein towards the head that ran about an inch). No burn issues and ash held on well.
