Now, I got this cigar for free at a Micallef event, but I remained impartial throughout this smoke. With that being said, while it's a good cigar, it's not my favorite in the Micallef lineup. The cigar has nice complexity, with the first third having primary semi-sweet chocolate and cinnamon flavors, along with wood, leather, and earthiness. It's when the second third starts that it changes with the added saltiness and floral notes that come in the background, which adds a nice flavor with the salt mixing well with the chocolate and the floral notes helping the creamy cinnamon and vanilla. The final third is when the peak of these flavors comes together, leaving a satisfying finish altogether. While I say all this, the main issue was the burn, as I had to touch it up on multiple occasions, and the secondary notes didn't really play a big part in the cigar, leaving me wanting more, like I had with the Color series. As stated this is a solid cigar and again while I will smoke this again I don't think I'll be adding this to the humidor.
Now, this is a limited release and obviously a "novelty" cigar, so did I go into this thinking I was going to get notes similar to root beer? No, maybe some small notes, but this cigar surprised me greatly. The notes coming together in the way they did genuinely shocked me. I've had few cigars before that I could describe to something I've eaten, drunk, or smelled, and that's exactly what I got here. I like to taste and try craft root beers in my free time along with cigars, and this tasted like a craft root beer minus the carbonation, of course, but the flavors play so well with each other and left me speechless. The chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon, and even hints of mint towards the nub reminded me of past root beers I've tried. What helped even more was the natural sweetness of the cigar; even the retrohale started to feel like the fizzy aroma that came off a root beer before sipping. Overall, if you find this cigar, try it. You may like it, but palates change from person to person. Even then, this is a solid cigar that, if I find more, they will be added to the humidor, aged, and enjoyed like tonight.
